Life is Like a Doll by Katie Cruz Frau Kathe Kruse is a German woman who can make dolls out of cotton and cloth that look very much like real babies. Jokerel is one of them. Frau Kruse started making dolls years ago for her little girl. The first doll I made had a potato head and a towel body. (They say little girls are made of sugar and spice and everything nice, so potatoes for the head aren’t so funny.) Young boys in Germany often wear aprons over their suits. This is why Jockerle wears one. His sandals are […]

A Doll With Two Names
I gave this doll to a friend named James for his fifth birthday. James had a lot of fun with him from the start. The two often went together. When James started at school and learned to draw, paste and cut, he made a little stage for his dolls. Now pretend that the doll is Freddy Bartholomew. He changed the doll’s name from Jack to Freddy. Lately he has been posing as Freddy and filming him.
Barbara and Her Movie Dog
Barbara wears comfortable slip-ons. She looks like a little red bird in a red jumpsuit, gloves and a red hat. Really, though, you should be wearing over-the-knee boots instead of rubber ones. The cute dog with her is Rin Tin. Named after the movie’s dog.
The German Doll With An Irish Look
Pat loves to play with her dog in the snow! Pat for short! Patricia for a long time! This is the name of this doll. She was given the name because it is an Irish name and she has Irish blue eyes and brown hair like many Irish children. The phrase “When Irish Eyes Smile” sounds as if it was written about her. Despite all this, Pat is from Germany. Pat has a snowsuit, hat, mittens, and latex just like Barbara.

There are dozens of tucks and yards of lace on her skirts and dress.
When dolls Mary Ellen and Gertrude have a tea party…
When Mary Ellen and Gertrude have their cambric tea together in the garden, they are such a pretty sight that all the little girls who pass by, have them through the hedge. It must be said that Cambric tea is the best of all teas. It is made by filling a cup almost full of milk. Then a teaspoon of tea is poured. Cambric tea is sweetened as desired. There are all kinds of goodies to serve with cambric tea: scones, fluffy bread, butter sandwiches, gooseberry pancakes, plum tarts, and cinnamon toast. Cambric tea is what little English princesses drink […]
