Charcoal graphics with true design flair.
Pankov Roman includes a very interesting duality in these images. They have aspects of graphics and other aspects of realism. Features are drawn perfectly to resemble the details in the image while the surrounding areas look less realistic than they are.
For me, that contrast is what raises the bar for illustration. It almost seems to add another dimension to them. Now that you’ve seen them like this…if they were all finished in a realistic style, the photos would look like they’re missing something.
