Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls are still frequent vintage crafts these days. Below are our explanations. However, I’ve seen other versions on the web where these dolls wear red checks, solids, and cotton instead. In general, most Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls wear some sort of combination of red, white, and blue, depending on the decor materials available to the character.

Support list:
- Two extra large red pom poms and two much smaller red pom poms for brother and sister doll hairstyles
- One or two white chenille
- 3 or 4 cotton balls
- Hot glue gun and hot glue
- white school glue
- Small scraps of blue felt
- lace trim
- Acrylic paints: red, white, blue, black
- Scrap decorative papers for Andy’s shirt (optional)
- Wooden clothespins
- Nail or nail to make holes in the wood for the doll’s arms
Step by step instructions:
- Paint the wooden heads of each clothespin doll white.
- Paint from the neck of each doll along the torso blue.
- Paint red and white horizontal stripes down the length of the legs on each doll.
- Paint the feet black to “boot” each wooden figure.
- Pop a blue and white shirt onto Raggedy Andy doll as a blue paint option.
- For Raggedy Ann, cut a small rectangular “skirt” out of felt and hot-glue it to her waist.
- Hot glue the big red pom poms to the top of the doll’s heads for the wig.
- Poke a small hole in each wooden clothespin twice where their arms should be.
- Coat the arms of the chenille stems with cotton batting to form their stuffed ends, then stick them securely inside the holes. Leave to dry overnight if needed.
- Paint the doll’s facial features like those of the actual characters: red triangle noses, shoe button eyes and sewn smiles.
- Stick a small candy heart on their outerwear. Actual dolls have this feature inside their clothes…
- Add a lace trim to Raggedy Ann’s skirt since she’ll usually have an apron.
- Glue more details such as: Andy’s bow tie, paper collar, red suspenders and extra pom-pom tails over Ann’s wig.
