Luigi Tarini explains how he got his first project in the series with the idea of swapping Van Gogh’s face for Clint Eastwood’s. He was not satisfied with the result and after various tries, realized that it worked best with strips of both images.
Tarini says this about the work that goes into each picture: “For each artwork, most of the time is spent searching for the correct image of the actress/actor to combine with the painting of my choice.” Come to think of it, he has to find the right perspectives and proportions, so that when interlocking they fit in as smoothly as possible. I’m sure the goal is to make it look like a single image in the end. (Not quite a single picture, but you know what I mean.)
I have a feeling the process is more difficult than it appears at first glance. It takes a long time and requires a lot of patience. It’s all worth it in the end, when you get results like this.
