This photo was taken of Grandma and Grandpa Dole on Ellis Island just moments after they arrived in this country.
They dressed as they were dressed in France.
Grandmother wears a white bonnet, black satin waist, checkered skirt, black silk apron, and black silk gloves. Her shoulder shawl is of black lace. The only jewelry she wears is a heavy gold chain.
Each of these old men wears wooden shoes. Grandpa wears a red stocking, gray pants, a blue velvet dress, a blue handkerchief and a black hat.
